Description
The Atlas #2590 is a left-hand remote switch machine for Atlas N Standard-Line turnouts — a separate AC twin-coil solenoid unit that mounts beside the turnout and pulls the points electrically when you press a control panel button. (Note: this is NOT a DCC accessory in itself; it's a conventional AC twin-coil solenoid. It can be driven by a DCC accessory decoder like the Digitrax DS64, but works out of the box with a standard AC accessory tap and momentary push-button.)
Wire the three machine leads — one common, two directional — to an Atlas #56 Controller or any momentary push-button setup that delivers a brief AC pulse (12-16V from your transformer's accessory tap). The switch machine is designed specifically for Atlas N Standard-Line turnouts — it bolts on to the tie strip and pulls the points via a small lever arm.
How to use
- Power from a 12-16V AC accessory tap — do not use continuous DC, the coils will overheat.
- Use only momentary push-button control — Atlas #56 controller is the standard, or wire your own SPST momentary buttons.
- Wire common to one terminal of the controller, the two directional leads to the throw and reverse buttons.
- To convert a manual Atlas turnout to remote: remove the manual lever, screw on the #2590 (LH) or #2591 (RH) machine.
- Can be driven by DCC accessory decoders (e.g. Digitrax DS64, NCE Switch-It) for digital control — wire the decoder's pulse outputs to the machine's three leads.
