Description
A No.7 frog is the medium-sweep workhorse turnout for N scale main lines and branchline junctions — sharper than a #10 mainline switch but gentler than the tight #5 yard turnouts. The diverging route opens at a 1-in-7 rate (~8.13°), so equipment up to full-length passenger cars and modern intermodal cars tracks through it cleanly. The #2053 is the right-hand version.
Built to the Atlas Code 55 standard: nickel-silver rail in scale-correct .055" height with prototype-accurate rail profile, brown molded ties, and DCC-friendly power-routing frog construction. Pair with #2052 for the left-hand version, or use multiples to build a yard ladder.
How to use
- Connect with Atlas Code 55 rail joiners (#2090) to other Code 55 turnouts and flex track.
- Throw manually with a Caboose Industries 220S ground throw, or wire to an Atlas #65 under-table switch machine, Tortoise, or similar.
- Power-routing frog: insulate the frog rails downstream if you want to power both routes independently.
- Best fit for: secondary mainlines, branchline junctions, double-track crossovers, modern intermodal yards.
- For sharper switches use the Code 55 Curved turnouts (#2058/#2059) or for gentler mainline use the #10 turnouts (#2055/#2056).
