Articulated bulk carriers came into their own in the late 20th century, when many New York City-area landfills closed and municipal waste had to move out by rail. The car is essentially a long flat car with a pivot in the middle and a third truck under the joint, so it can work tight curves and narrow industrial spurs where a conventional long flat would overhang — and the extra truck spreads the weight so it can carry more containers.
Atlas's all-new Master Line HO model is Greenfield Logistics (GFLX) #144 with a green carrier, loaded with a mixed load of six containers — green Greenfield Logistics GFLU 001043 and 001066, gray MHF MHFU 001375 and 001954, and blue Environmental Solutions BFLU 000080 and 000307.
