Beginning in the late 1990s, Norfolk Southern's Roanoke shops rebuilt thousands of aging coal hoppers into high-sided gondolas known as "TopGons" — classes G-90R and G-86R — keeping the Appalachian coal fleet rolling for decades more. This car is lettered NSSX #200266 for National Salvage & Service, whose reporting marks appeared on TopGons assigned to salvage and scrap-loading service.
Atlas's HO scale TopGon captures the rebuilt car's distinctive side profile and interior detail, riding on 100-ton roller-bearing trucks with blackened metal wheels and body-mounted AccuMate couplers.
