Through the 1960s and 1970s, 20,700-gallon general-service tank cars hauled chemicals, oils and food-grade liquids for shippers across North America. This car is lettered for the St. Louis Southwestern — the Cotton Belt — as SSW #55008, one of the railroad-owned cars that worked alongside the big lease fleets.
Atlas's HO scale model captures the tank, platform, handrail and ladder details of these workhorse cars, riding on 100-ton roller-bearing trucks with blackened metal wheels and body-mounted AccuMate couplers.
