GE's U30C was a 3,000-horsepower, six-axle "U-boat" built from 1966 to 1976 — General Electric's rugged answer to EMD's SD40, with nearly 600 units sold across North America.
Conrail inherited its U30Cs from the Reading in the 1976 merger, keeping the big GEs on coal and mineral trains. Atlas's Master Series HO model depicts ex-RDG #6582 in Conrail blue.
