Amtrak gives a modeller two very different trains to choose between: the tilting LRC of the early years and the Acela Express of the modern era. Both are instantly recognisable on a layout, and both run as complete consists rather than as single cars added to a freight.
Rapido supplies the large majority of this collection. The 9113003 HO LRC trainset pairs locomotive #38 with coaches 42, 46 and 49 in DC/silent form, and the same set appears in N scale as the 9128002 in DC/silent or the 9128502 with DCC and sound. Individual pieces are available too — the N scale LRC locomotive #39 in both silent and sound versions, and HO LRC coaches #43 and #48. Rapido also covers the leased equipment era with the SP Dome-Lounge with flat sides in Amtrak Phase 1 as #9375 and in Phase 1 Leased lettering as SP 3603 and SP 3605. Bachmann handles the Acela with Business Class cars #3516, #3528 and #3538.
HO is the larger part of the range, with a smaller N scale selection, and Rapido's trainsets are offered in both DC/silent and DCC/sound so you can match whatever control system the layout already runs. For repaints and patch jobs, Microscale's TF-12 Amtrak Blue trim film works in any scale.
