Description
The Comet might be the most recognizable single-level commuter car in North America. Originally designed by Pullman-Standard for the NJDOT (with Erie-Lackawanna operating the service), the Comet was picked up by Bombardier in the early 1980s and built for NJ TRANSIT, MBTA, Metro-North and Montréal's STCUM (later AMT). Most are still in service today, either as originally built or after major rebuilds. In 2025 MBTA wrapped a Comet in a special Massachusetts 250 anniversary scheme honoring the Revolutionary War — a one-of-a-kind paint job that Rapido's new release captures.
Rapido's N scale Comet returns with new schemes spanning AMT (Montréal), CDOT/CTrail, NJ TRANSIT, MBTA and the special Massachusetts 250 wrap. The model features full underbody and interior detail, correct inside-bearing trucks with metal wheelsets, accurate tinted windows, fully controllable interior and exterior lighting including marker lights, headlights and ditch lights, and all-wheel electrical pickup for constant illumination on both DC and DCC layouts.
Sold as three-packs (cab car + two coaches) and as single coaches; the MBTA 250 coach is offered as a single car. Suggested minimum radius is 14". Order deadline was February 16, 2026. Pre-orders require a 25% deposit; balance collected when stock arrives.
