Description
The Rapido 50622 is an HO scale EMD SD9 6-axle road switcher in Chicago, Burlington & Quincy livery — road number #831 — with factory-installed ESU LokSound DCC and sound.
Prototype: The EMD SD9 is a 1750 hp 6-axle (C-C) road switcher built 1954–1959 — EMD's first six-motor road switcher to displace steam on heavy-grade and branch-line service. CB&Q had a large SD9 fleet, used heavily on the Black Hills line in Wyoming and Nebraska where six-motor traction was essential. Many CB&Q SD9s survived into BN ownership after the 1970 merger.
