Prototype: The GE C36-7 is a 3600 hp 6-axle road switcher built 1978–1985, GE's late-production Dash 7 family flagship. N&W bought 75 units in 1984–1985 numbered 8500–8574, which became famous for their distinctive blue and black livery and saw heavy main-line freight service across the N&W (and later NS) system through the 1990s.
