What bridge shoes do: Bridge shoes are the cast-steel transition pieces at each end of a girder bridge — they sit on the abutment masonry and let the bridge expand and contract with temperature without cracking the masonry or twisting the girders. Add these under any of ME's bridge kits at the bridge-to-abutment interface for prototypical detail.
