The Micro Engineering 49-101 is a 3 oz bottle of Pliobond contact adhesive — the legendary flexible bonding agent that generations of track handlayers have used to fasten rail to ties without spikes.
Why Pliobond for tracklaying: Pliobond bonds metal to wood and stays slightly flexible when cured, so it absorbs the vibration and seasonal movement that crack brittle glues. The classic method: coat the rail base, let it tack, position the rail on the ties, then set the bond by drawing a hot soldering iron along the railhead. The result is invisible fastening — ideal under fine Code 40 and Code 55 rail where even small spike heads look oversized.
Beyond track: Equally useful anywhere a strong, flexible metal-to-wood, metal-to-metal or dissimilar-material bond is needed — detail parts, brass castings, weights in rolling stock.
