The Micro Engineering 17-040 is a 17-piece bundle of N (1:160) scale Code 40 (non-weathered (bright nickel-silver)) bulk rail — 3-foot lengths, 51′ total per bundle. Code 40 is the finest commercially-available N scale rail — for prototypically-correct lightweight branch line, industrial spurs, and yard tracks. Sold in a 17-piece bundle (51′) rather than the larger codes' 33-piece (99′) bundle.
About bulk rail: Bulk rail is sold without ties — for handlaid track, custom turnout/crossover work, or repair / spare-rail stock. Spike it onto your own wood / PC-board / plastic ties using the Code-appropriate spikes and tie plates.
Wheel-flange compatibility (Code 40): Code 40 is the finest commercially-available N scale rail. Modern locomotives and rolling stock with NMRA RP-25 low-profile flanges run smoothly. Older N equipment with deeper flanges may have flanges that ride up on the spike heads — check your fleet's wheel profile before committing a layout to Code 40.
