The Bowser 40300 is the HO scale RoadRailer CouplerMate — the rail bogie with a standard knuckle coupler that goes at the head of a RoadRailer string so the bimodal trailers can be coupled to a locomotive. This detailed version comes with deck details, railings and steps factory installed.
On the prototype, one CouplerMate is placed on the leading RoadRailer; later practice modified them to run on the last unit as well so a few conventional cars could be added at the end of the string. RoadRailers couple to each other with a tongue and operate as a unit train, so only one CouplerMate is needed per train. Pairs with the Bowser HO RoadRailer trailers in this run (items 44160–44222).
