Description
Atlas 705 is an HO scale kit for a small telephone-pole shanty — the diminutive trackside hut that signal and communications crews built at the base of a pole-mounted lineside cabinet. Common from the 1920s through the 1970s anywhere a railroad ran a code-line for dispatching, these shanties stored splice kits, batteries, and the company telephone.
The kit moulds the shanty and a length of telephone pole together as a single small structure, finished in coloured styrene. A signal tower (#704), a passenger station (#706), or any of the Atlas industrial kits all gain extra visual life with a couple of these tucked along the right-of-way.
