Description
The Atlas 596 is an HO Code 83 CustomLine® Mark IV curved right-hand turnout — right-hand mate to Atlas 595, with the same 22" inner radius / 30" outer radius geometry. Splices a turnout directly into an existing curved mainline without straight-tangent transitions.
Why a curved turnout. Standard turnouts have a straight through-route plus a curved divergent leg; both legs of a curved turnout are curves. That makes them the right choice at the end of a curved approach, at yard throats off a curved mainline, and on balloon-track gauntlets. Pairing Atlas 595 (LH curved) with the 596 (RH curved) builds a clean curved-crossover between two parallel curved mainlines.
Mark IV build. Blackened metal powerable frog, rivet-less switch points, same geometry as Code 100 Custom Line.
