Description
The Atlas 586 is an HO Code 83 left-hand manual switch machine — the standard above-benchwork manual throw lever for Code 83 Custom-Line turnouts and other Atlas Code 83 turnouts with the standard mounting interface.
How it works. A simple lever-and-spring mechanism throws the points by hand, with two detent positions (main / divergent). The standard Atlas mounting interface means this lever bolts directly to Custom-Line turnouts (Atlas 561–566), Curved Turnouts (Atlas 595/596), and the Wye (Atlas 560). Swap to remote later with Atlas 584/585 if you want electric control.
When manual makes sense. Yard ladders where the operator walks the consist together — you'll be at the turnout anyway, no panel needed. Industrial spurs where the turnout is thrown twice a session. Small layouts where running cost matters more than instant turnout control.
