Description
The Atlas 50006474 is an N scale Trainman 50-foot mechanical refrigerator car in Canadian National paint, road number CN #231123 — second car of the CN 231xxx-series Trainman mech reefer pair.
Prototype. CN's 231000-series 50-foot mechanical reefers were transition-era perishables cars built in the 1970s and worked produce service from the U.S. west coast and Maritime seafood traffic out of Halifax. The mechanical refrigeration unit at one end is the giveaway: a small diesel engine and Vapor or Trane refrigeration plant cool the load, replacing the ice-bunker reefers of an earlier generation. Pair #231120 (Atlas 50006473) with #231123 (this one) to run a typical 2-3 reefer block in a CN mixed freight.
Trainman build. Atlas's budget-line tooling — same body as Master Line, simplified detail, attractive price. Body-mounted AccuMate® couplers, free-rolling trucks.
Key Features
- Colorful painting and printing in CN noodle scheme
- Friction or roller-bearing trucks as appropriate to the prototype
