The Atlas 50006473 is an N scale Trainman 50-foot mechanical refrigerator car in Canadian National paint, road number CN #231120 — a budget-line model of CN's 1970s–1980s perishables fleet.
Prototype. 50-foot mechanical reefers are refrigerator cars with an onboard diesel-powered refrigeration unit (typically Vapor or Trane) and a small generator at one end — the door at the end of the car gives the engine a service hatch. CN's 231000-series mechanical reefers worked from the 1970s through the late 1980s in produce service from California's Central Valley up through the U.S. west coast and into eastern Canada, plus Atlantic seafood out of the Maritimes. The class was replaced in the 1990s by intermodal reefer containers and the Tropicana / similar dedicated unit trains, so a #231xxx CN reefer fits a layout set roughly 1975–1990.
Trainman build. Same body tooling as Atlas Master Line, simplified detail at a budget price. Body-mounted AccuMate® couplers, free-rolling trucks (friction or roller-bearing applied as appropriate to the prototype era).
