Description
The Atlas 50006191 is an N scale Trainman 40-foot double-door (DD) box car in Canadian National paint, road number CN #587384 — a faithful budget-line model of the post-war box cars that hauled white goods, automotive parts, and palletized lading across Canada from the 1960s through the 1990s.
Prototype. CN's 587000-series 40-foot DD box cars were 50-ton AAR-class XM boxes with their door opening widened from the standard 8 feet to 16 feet — a configuration tailored to autos and automotive parts, large palletized loads, and any commodity that came on a pallet too wide for a single-door car. Built by various Canadian shops through the 1960s, repainted into CN's modernized noodle-logo scheme in the 1970s, and worked the system into the early 1990s. Mainline freight, branch-line peddler service, transition-era car for any CN-themed layout set roughly 1965–1995.
Trainman line. Atlas Trainman is the affordable rolling stock line — the same body tooling and underframe used on the Atlas Master Line freight cars, with simpler grab-iron details and a more budget-friendly finish, so you can fill out a layout's car fleet without paying Master-Line money per car. Body-mounted AccuMate® knuckle couplers (NMRA #156 compatible), free-rolling 100-ton roller-bearing trucks.
