Description

The Atlas 50006122 is an N scale 33-foot 2-bay offset-side hopper car in Canadian Pacific (CP) reporting marks, road number #357018. A staple of CP coal, aggregate, and bulk-commodity service from the 1950s through the 1990s, the offset-side twin hopper is one of the most-modeled freight car types in North America.

Prototype

The 33-foot offset-side twin hopper was originally built in large numbers from the 1930s onward by AC&F, Pullman-Standard, and other builders for coal-haul service on US and Canadian roads. CP rostered thousands of these cars (CP and CCPX reporting marks) in the 350,000–380,000 number series to move coal from Alberta and BC mines to ports and consumers, plus aggregates, sand, and ballast in MOW service. The offset side wall and external posts give the type its distinctive 'ribbed' silhouette.

Key Features

  • Prototypical CP tuscan-red painting and white lettering
  • Plastic body on die-cast metal chassis (correct weight for free rolling)
  • Removable coal load
