Description
The Atlas #402 Track Eraser is an abrasive rubber block that removes oxidation, grease, and grime from the railhead — the leading cause of stalling locomotives and flickering headlights on a model railroad. Rub it along the rails periodically (especially after a long storage gap) and you'll see immediate improvement in electrical pickup.
The eraser is safe on all rail materials (nickel silver, brass, steel) and all rail codes. It is a general-purpose cleaning tool — not a locomotive part — and works on N, HO, O, and S scale layouts equally well.
How to use
- Cut the bar to a comfortable handheld length with a hobby knife if desired.
- Rub firmly along the railhead in the direction of the rail; one or two passes is usually enough.
- Vacuum or brush away the abrasive residue afterward.
- Follow up with a CRC 2-26 / CMX track-cleaning car / Trix Aqua wipe for a fully clean railhead.
- Use periodically — once a month for active layouts, before each operating session for layouts that sit between sessions.
