Description
The Atlas #400 Modeler's Super Saw is a fine-tooth modeler's hand saw designed for cutting model railroad track (rail and tie strip), styrene, brass, and similar layout-building materials. The thin kerf blade leaves a clean cut with minimal material loss — important when trimming flex track or fitting custom-length sections of code 55 / 83 / 100 rail.
Despite the Atlas branding, this is a general-purpose modeler's tool, not a locomotive or rolling stock part. It belongs in the toolbox alongside your rail nipper, point files, and pin vise.
How to use
- Hold the workpiece firmly (a mitre block or vice gives the cleanest cuts).
- Use long, smooth strokes — the fine teeth do the cutting; pressure is not required.
- For rail cutting, finish with a fine flat file (or Xuron 9180 track filing kit) to deburr the rail head and webs.
- Excellent companion to Atlas's #401 Rail Joiner Sidekick and #402 Track Eraser — a three-piece basic Atlas track-laying toolkit.
