Description
The Atlas #2840 is an N-scale railroad signal-tower / interlocking-tower building kit — the two-story structure where, in mainline practice, a tower operator ("leverman") worked the levers that controlled an interlocking plant of signals and switches. These towers appeared at every busy junction, crossing, and yard throat from the 1880s through the 1970s.
The kit includes a small fenced yard with a tool shed, oil tank, and barrels for trackside detail. Plastic parts are precision-molded in appropriate colors and require only plastic cement (not included) and a few minutes to assemble.
How to use
- Solvent-cement assembly — clip parts from the sprues, dry-fit, then bond with standard plastic cement.
- Tower base footprint: 1.3" × 3" — fits at the apex of an interlocking, beside a junction, or at the throat of a yard.
- Pair with Atlas #2841 N Passenger Station or #2843 Roundhouse for a complete operating scene.
- Add a warm yellow LED inside the second-story bay window for a glowing-at-night interlocking-tower effect.
- Period correct from roughly 1900 through the 1970s.
