Description
A Wye (Y) turnout splits a single track into two equally diverging routes, both curving away from straight at the same angle — there's no through route. Real railroads use wye turnouts in turnaround triangles (where a locomotive runs onto one leg, reverses, and comes back out the other), at industrial spurs that fork two ways, and in tight yard layouts where a #4 or #6 turnout would extend too far. The Atlas #2708 is the N Code 80 Wye with integrated remote switch machine.
Nickel-silver Code 80 rail on moulded black ties with wood-grain detail. Integrated AC twin-coil switch machine (12-16V AC accessory tap, momentary pulse) — same electrical design as the #2704/#2705. A sliding manual lever lets you throw the points by hand for testing. Includes Switch Control Box for panel-mounted remote operation.
How to use
- Power from 12-16V AC accessory tap — never continuous DC.
- Wire the three machine leads to the included Switch Control Box or any momentary push-button.
- Connect track rails with Atlas Code 80 rail joiners (#2535).
- Use in a turnaround wye, at an industrial spur fork, or for tight yard layouts where a standard #4/#6 turnout extends too far.
- Pair with #2709 (Wye manual) where remote control isn't justified, or use multiples for a yard ladder with wye geometry.
