Description

A crossing is a flat junction where two tracks cross each other without diverging — the modern North American railroad equivalent of a level crossing between two main lines, often seen at junctions between competing railroads (e.g. CN and CP crossing in major prairie hubs). The Atlas #2565 is a 20° crossing in N Code 80, the shallowest angle in the Atlas N range and best for through-mainline crossings where space and operation allow.

Pre-assembled with nickel-silver Code 80 rail and Atlas's standard black plastic ties. The 20° angle gives a long, sweeping crossing geometry — visually most prototypical, and lets longer equipment cross without binding. Each rail through the diamond is electrically isolated, so the two crossing tracks can be wired as separate DC or DCC blocks.

How to use

  • Connect with Atlas Code 80 rail joiners (#2535) to flex track or sectional Code 80 pieces.
  • Wire each crossing route to its own block — the rails through the diamond are electrically isolated from one another.
  • Best for: junctions between competing railroads, branchline crossing a mainline at a shallow angle.
  • For sharper crossings use the #2566 (30°), #2567 (45°), #2568 (60°), or #2569 (90°).
  • Compatible with all Atlas N Code 80 track, turnouts, and bridges.
