Description
Plate-girder bridges are the workhorse of North American railroading — solid steel web bridges spanning anywhere from a small creek to a downtown street, used everywhere from CN's prairies to CP's Rocky Mountain subdivisions. Atlas's N scale 5" (127 mm) plate-girder span recreates this common prototype in unlettered black, ready for your own decals or weathering.
Pre-assembled with nickel-silver Code 80 rail on the deck. The deep girder sides give it a more substantial visual presence than a truss bridge despite being the same 5" length. Painted flat black (the most common prototype color), and unlettered so you can add custom road-name letterboards or leave plain. Pair with #2541/#2543 piers for multi-span installations.
How to use
- Snap into any Atlas N Code 80 sectional plan with slip-on rail joiners.
- Mount on top of bridge piers (#2541/#2543) at standard 5" pier spacing.
- Apply custom dry-transfer letterboards (e.g. 'CN' or 'CP') to the girder sides for a road-specific scene.
- Combine multiple plate-girder spans for long, low river or street crossings — looks great with two or three #2548s end-to-end.
- Weather with a wash of brown/rust for a more aged steel appearance.
