A layout reads as real in the last ten per cent — the crossbucks at the grade crossing, the pole line following the right-of-way, the containers stacked against the fence. These are the small castings and kits that turn finished scenery into a scene somebody actually works in.
Walthers SceneMaster is the deepest line here, including the 18506 53' Singamas corrugated-side container 3-pack. Woodland Scenics covers the vignettes and the utility work — the D226 Scenic Details Cats and Dogs kit, the US2268 Utility System Substation and pre-wired poles with single or double crossbars. Rix Products handles line-side hardware: 40' railroad telephone poles in packs of 36, crossarms in packs of 72, roof vents for industrial buildings, and the 660 set of four crossbucks with twenty mileposts. Micro Engineering adds structures such as the 80-168 City Viaduct Tower, and Bachmann and Atlas fill in the livestock and crops with sheep and 1" tall wheat.
Everything in this collection is HO, so it drops straight onto a layout already built to HO track and structure dimensions. Pole lines and signage are the cheapest way to add depth to a bare stretch of right-of-way, and stacked containers give a flat yard something to be about.
