HO Freight Cars

Freight cars are where a roster turns into a railway. One boxcar is a model; twenty cars in the right mix of hoppers, gondolas, tank cars and boxes is a train that tells anyone looking at it what era and what territory you are modelling.

Canadian National and Canadian Pacific are the two largest road names here, ahead of Norfolk Southern, Southern Pacific, Conrail, BC Rail, Santa Fe and Union Pacific. Grain is particularly well covered — the Bachmann 19145 CN 4-Bay Grain Hopper with the North American logo, #371897, and the 19136 Government of Canada cylindrical hopper are the cars that make an Ontario or prairie train read correctly.
