Description

The Rapido 516002 is an N scale Budd RDC-1 Phase 1 in Santa Fe (ATSF) livery — Standard DC.

Prototype: The Budd Rail Diesel Car (RDC) is a self-propelled stainless-steel passenger car built by the Budd Company 1949–1962. Two underfloor GM 6-71 diesel engines drive the trucks via hydraulic transmissions, eliminating the need for a separate locomotive — perfect for branch-line and short-haul commuter service. The RDC-1 is the basic 90-seat all-coach variant (other variants: RDC-2 with baggage, RDC-3 with baggage + RPO, RDC-4 baggage / RPO express, RDC-9 powerless trailer). Phase 1 bodies differ in window arrangement, roof detail, and end-cap styling from the other production phases.
