Description
The Rapido 21612 is an HO scale MLW FPA-4 + FPB-4 A-B set in Canadian National livery — A-unit #6776 + B-unit booster #6862 — with factory-installed DC / DCC / Sound (dual-mode).
Prototype: The MLW FPA-4 (and FPB-4 booster) is a Canadian-built derivative of the ALCO PA passenger cab unit, produced by Montreal Locomotive Works 1958–1959. Distinct from the US PA in using the MLW 251 prime mover (12-cylinder, 1,800 hp) and styled with the iconic Canadian cab roof. CN bought 34 A-units + 12 B-units numbered 6760-series (A) and 6860-series (B), and used them on every major Canadian passenger train (Continental Limited, Super Continental, Ocean Limited) until the early 1980s. Some passed to VIA Rail and a handful to US shortlines.
