Description

A PECO N (1:160) Code 55 scissor crossing with Electrofrog. A scissor crossing — also known as a double crossover — lets trains move from one parallel track to the other in either direction, in a single compact unit. Saves a huge amount of length compared to two opposing crossovers.

Electrofrog: the entire frog is live nickel-silver. There's no dead-spot, so short-wheelbase locomotives crawl across it without hesitation. The tradeoff is wiring — for DCC, isolate both diverging-route rails just past the frog (use PECO insulated joiners), and switch the frog polarity from the point motor or a frog-juicer.

Wiring & DCC

Slip crossings and scissor crossings have multiple frogs that all need polarity switching. Plan for two SPDT contacts (or two frog-juicers) — see PECO's Wiring the Layout No. 21 booklet for the wiring diagram.
