Description
The KATO 23-300 is an N scale Long Engine House building kit — a multi-stall locomotive servicing structure with stalls long enough to house full-length modern diesels (SD70 / ES44 / Genesis P42) or articulated steam locomotives.
Prototype: The long engine house is the modern descendant of the steam-era roundhouse — a straight (rather than radial) building with multiple parallel servicing tracks. Used at every Class-1 mainline engine terminal and many short-line bases for daily inspections, fueling, sanding, and minor running repairs.
Layout uses: Pairs with the KATO #20-283 electric turntable (separate purchase) to model a complete engine terminal; works as a stand-alone modern facility with through-tracks at both ends.
