Description
The KATO 20-283 is a motorized N scale electric turntable for use with the KATO N Unitrack system — a 280 mm diameter bridge with 36 outward-facing stub-track positions every 10°, motor-driven by a built-in stepping motor with electronic position memory.
How it works: Controlled from a separate KATO controller (sold separately), the turntable advances in 10° increments to any of the 36 stub positions. The bridge rotates the locomotive while maintaining electrical contact through the central pivot — lights stay on and DCC sound keeps running. Built-in directional sense lets the user reverse a loco end-for-end with a single throw.
Layout uses: Anchors a steam-era or modern diesel engine terminal; pairs with a KATO roundhouse, Atlas roundhouse, or scratch-built engine house. Use with KATO 20-285 (straight extension tracks) and 20-286 (curved extensions) to position stub tracks at any angle. The 20-284 conversion kit lets you add powered feeders to multiple stub tracks.
KATO N Unitrack system: Code 80 nickel-silver rail molded into a factory-attached ballasted plastic roadbed, with integrated UniJoiners. Unitrack is KATO's flagship N-scale track system.
