Description
Atlas 709 is an HO scale roundhouse kit, modular in 3-stall sections so a single kit gives you a 45° pie-slice of a full circular engine-storage building. Each stall is sized for any HO scale steam locomotive up to about a USRA 2-8-2 Mikado or a small 4-8-4, and the doors are tall enough to clear a smokestack on a typical road engine.
Construction is modular: each kit covers three stalls at 15° per stall, so two kits give you a 6-stall (90°) section, three kits a 9-stall (135°) sweep, and so on right up to a complete eight-kit, 24-stall full circle around the turntable. Features include opening stall doors, two styles of ventilator, and a separately positionable office that can be located on either end of the building (or pulled forward into the yard). Use plastic-compatible cement. Position the roundhouse alongside an Atlas turntable (sold separately), the #703 Water Tower, and an oil/coal facility to build a complete steam-era engine terminal.
