Description
The ALCO S-2 was a 1,000 hp four-axle yard switcher powered by ALCO's 539T turbocharged six-cylinder prime mover. Built from 1940 through 1950, the S-2 became the standard heavy yard switcher across North America. Canadian Pacific rostered S-2s for terminal and yard work in Toronto, Montreal, Winnipeg, and other division points; many ran into the 1970s before dieselization swept the second-generation locomotives in.
This is Atlas's N scale S-2 scaled from prototype measurements, finished in CP's classic block-lettered switcher livery as road number #7020. Features include a detailed plastic body with fine-scale handrails, separately-applied coupler cut levers / air hoses / piping, a heavy die-cast chassis, a powerful five-pole motor with dual flywheels, and directional LED headlights including a cab rear light. DCC-ready via NMRA 6-pin (NEM 651) decoder socket.
How to use
- Any N scale Code 55 or Code 80 track.
- DC out of the box; install any 6-pin NEM 651 decoder for DCC.
- Minimum recommended radius: 9.75" — switcher will handle tight yard trackage.
- Body-mount couplers, Micro-Trains compatible.
- Pair with Atlas 40005692 (CP #7045) for a two-unit yard switcher set.
