Description
The Atlas 40005092 is an N scale ALCO FA-1 cab unit in classic Canadian Pacific (CP) tuscan-red and gray fast-freight livery, road number #4020, factory-equipped with DCC and full ESU LokSound.
Prototype
The ALCO FA-1 was a 1,500 hp B-B 'covered wagon' freight cab unit built 1946–1950. CP took 30 FA-1s (#4015–4044) and 12 matching FB-1 boosters from Montreal Locomotive Works starting 1949, leading transcontinental fast-freight A-B-A and A-B-B-A lashups in tuscan red with the gray window band. The series was largely retired by the mid-1960s due to ALCO 244 prime-mover reliability issues.
