The Micro Engineering 49-104 is a 16 oz / 473 ml bottle of ME's rail weathering solution — a brush-on chemical that chemically oxidises the rail web and sides to a rust-brown tone, mimicking the natural patina of real-railroad rail.
Why weather rail: Bright nickel-silver rail tops are necessary for electrical pickup, but the sides and web of real rail oxidise to a deep rust brown — leaving these silver gives away the model immediately. Brush this on the rail sides after laying track, wipe off any spilled onto the rail top, and the layout instantly looks 20% more real.
