Description
The ALCO S-2 was a 1,000 hp four-axle yard switcher with ALCO's 539T turbocharged prime mover, built 1940-50. Great Northern rostered S-2s at Seattle, St. Paul, and other division points during the steam-to-diesel transition. This is Atlas's N scale S-2 in GN mineral red as road number #7, companion to GN #2 (Atlas 40005699).
Features include scaled-from-prototype measurements, horizontal/vertical radiator shutter option, fine-scale handrails, separately-applied coupler cut levers, air hoses, and piping, die-cast chassis, five-pole motor with dual flywheels, and directional LED lighting with cab rear headlight. DCC-ready via NMRA 6-pin (NEM 651) socket.
How to use
- Any N scale Code 55 or Code 80 track.
- DC out of the box; 6-pin NEM 651 decoder for DCC.
- Minimum recommended radius: 9.75".
- Body-mount couplers, Micro-Trains compatible.
- Pair with Atlas 40005699 (GN #2) for a two-unit Great Northern S-2 yard team.
