rapido-ho-halliburton-cement-car-1970s-scheme-single-car
Rapido 224002A HO scale Halliburton Cement Car: 1970s Scheme: Single Car

In 1961 the Halliburton Company teamed up with Pullman-Standard to create one of the strangest-looking freight cars to ever roll on North American rails — the Halliburton Cement Car, a pneumatic covered hopper designed to haul dry bulk materials critical to oilfield drilling operations: cement, pozzolan and fly ash. Instead of the usual angled hopper bays, these cars carried three vertically mounted cylindrical tanks on a flatcar-style platform, with brake wheel at one end and vertical handrail supports on both ends. Each car was 43 feet 7 inches long with 70-ton capacity and 2,400 cubic feet of volume. The flatcar base was built by Pullman-Standard, then shipped to Halliburton's Duncan, Oklahoma facility for tanks, piping, ladders and running boards. Just 75 were built (HWCX 50-124), but they earned over forty years of service.

Rapido's HO Halliburton Pneumatic Railcar is the first time this distinctive car has been offered as a ready-to-run plastic model with high detail. Newly tooled from original blueprints and measurements, the model features full underbody detail and piping, separate metal grab irons, a stainless-steel metal roof walk, semi-scale metal knuckle couplers, and free-rolling trucks with profiled metal wheelsets.

Available as single cars or six-packs covering multiple eras (1960s, 1970s and 1980s) with prototype road numbers for each.
